CDH

CDH is short for a condition known as congenital diaphragmatic hernia. It is a birth defect that occurs in approximately 1 in 2,000 to 3,000 births.

Additional problems that may accompany CDH

These are some of the more common issues associated with a diagnosis of CDH. Some occur during pregnancy and others occur after birth. This list is by no means comprehensive, just a sampling of possible additional problems.

  • Polyhydraminos (pregnancy)
  • Pre-eclampsia (pregnancy)
  • Pre-term labor (pregnancy)
  • Chromosomal abnormalities (between 5 to 16%)
  • Developmental delays
  • Edwards syndrome
  • Feeding issues
  • Fryn’s syndrome
  • Hearing loss (most commonly associated with placement on ECMO)
  • Heart defects
  • Hydrops
  • Kidney problems
  • Long-term digestive problems
  • Long-term respiratory problems
  • Missing limbs
  • Pectus excavatum
  • Scoliosis
  • Severe reflux
